Heritage Discovery: Cities
Less than 1.5 hours from the Château de Palaja, several towns await you for a charming urban getaway. Whether you're tasting local flavors in the lively covered market halls of Narbonne, strolling through the pink alleys of Toulouse, or delving into the architectural and artistic heritage of the South, each getaway offers a unique experience. Cathy and Eric share their best ideas for discovering urban Occitania, whether as a couple, with family, or with friends.
Narbonne
Just 45 minutes from the Château de Palaja, stroll through the sunny streets of Narbonne, a charming city with a Mediterranean atmosphere.
Ranked the most beautiful market in France in 2022, beneath the 19th-century Halles, discover a vibrant market bursting with color and flavor: mature cheeses, sun-drenched fruits, local wines, and regional specialties.
Don't miss Saint-Just Cathedral, the impressive Archbishops' Palace, the pretty boutiques in the city center, and the Narbo Via, a remnant of a Roman road in the heart of the city. These small, authentic shops are perfect for couples or families.
Cathy and Eric's suggestion: until 1 p.m. (except Sundays). Treat yourself to lunch amidst the lively market or by the canal.
Toulouse
Just 1 hour 15 minutes from Château de Palaja, Toulouse welcomes you with its Southwestern elegance and relaxed way of life.
Take a romantic stroll through its cobbled streets, admire its typical bell towers, and have lunch at the Halles Victor Hugo, a mecca of Southwestern gastronomy. Go shopping around Place du Capitole.
For a cultural or family getaway, visit the aeronautical museums or follow the Canal du Midi, which crosses the heart of the city in a peaceful and romantic atmosphere, perfect for couples.
