Fontfroide Abbey

Located 55 minutes from the Château, nestled in the heart of the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park, Fontfroide Abbey (founded in 1093) will captivate you with its majesty. Visit the rose garden and terraced gardens as a couple or with your family, then extend the experience with a wine tasting in the cellar. Perfect in rainy or hot weather.

Suggestion from Cathy and Eric: tastings on request in the cellar!

Dinosaur Museum

A fascinating museum for young and old alike. Born after the discovery of unique fossils in the region, it's the only museum in France entirely dedicated to dinosaurs. Life-size skeletons, an immersive greenhouse, and an excavation site immerse you in the heart of the Cretaceous period.

Suggestion from Cathy and Eric: ideal for a family outing on a rainy day!

Paper mill

In Brousses and Villaret, less than 40 minutes away, the Moulin à Papier is one of the last active paper mills in Languedoc, dating back to the 18th century. Discover the traditional production of handmade paper and create your own sheets using the hydraulic machines. The paper is made with a variety of raw materials...some of them quite surprising. A fun and original activity to do with the family near Carcassonne.

They even make paper dresses there, a must-see. André does a wonderful job!

The Master Craftsmen of the Cucugnan Mill

1 hour 15 minutes from the Château, find the “Maîtres de mon Moulins” in Cucugnan, who are pursuing a high-quality and ethical approach to offering “healthy bread,” made from organic flours produced on-site using ancient grain varieties. Wheat, spelt, Roussillon barbu, and einkorn are used to make flour, breads, pasta, and travel cakes! A local, ethical, and gourmet approach to enjoy near Carcassonne.

Suggestion from Cathy and Eric: The batch comes out every day at 11 a.m. Remember to reserve by email or phone. Everything is good!

The Limousis Caves and the Cabrespine Chasm

Discover two exceptional natural wonders just 20 minutes from our hotel, near Carcassonne.

Explore the Limousis Caves on a 1-hour tour through underground lakes and prehistoric remains, and admire the spectacular aragonite chandelier.

Also worth exploring with family or friends is the impressive Gouffre de Cabrespine, 250m deep, with a suspended walkway and breathtaking views.

Suggestion from Cathy and Eric: perfect in rainy or hot weather (14°C all year round)!

For the more adventurous: try the cave climbing (zip line and underground via ferrata) by reservation! Caving is also fun.

Carcassonne Drapery Museum

Located in the heart of Carcassonne's historic center, the Drapery Museum invites you on a journey through time through the local textile heritage. You'll discover the world of modern-day drapers, with demonstrations of ancient crafts, weaving machines, and period tools. This lively and educational space retraces the richness of local expertise that has long been at the heart of Carcassonne's economy.

Suggestion from Cathy & Éric: A museum that will delight young and old alike, perfect for a cooler or rainy day with the family.

MontCapel - Esperaza

45 minutes away, MontCapel, Hat Museum. Taken over as a cooperative in 2019, this felt hat factory perpetuates exceptional artisanal expertise. Visit the still-active workshops and discover all the stages of production, from wool sorting to finishing. The history of this century-old factory combines local commitment and living tradition. An immersive experience for lovers of craftsmanship and human stories.

Suggestion from Cathy & Eric: Combine with the nearby Dinosaur Museum if you're coming with children!
