The Cathar Castles

Ready for an unforgettable Cathar tour? Born shortly after the year 1000, Catharism is a religious movement which was concentrated in the south of France. In Aude, the Cathar castles such as Peyrepertusse, Queribus, Puilaurens or Termes witnessed the crusade between the Albigensians. Peyrepertusse, known as the "Carcassonne Céleste" and Queribus, stood on peaks and served as surveillance posts on the old border with Spain. These castles offer a fantastic panorama. They deserve (1 hour walk) but allow you to have a view up to the Mediterranean Sea.

Wonderful villages

Minerve is built above the Cesse gorges, only 1 hour from our charming hotel. Classified among the "most beautiful villages of France", this village was a high place of the crusade against the Cathars. Stroll the streets, between cafes and restaurants and sit on a terrace above the gorges.

Our suggestion: Discover the old covered way and the underground route leading to the postern where a stele in memory of the Cathars rests.

Mirepoix, medieval village, is 50 minutes from our beautiful hotel. Built in the 12th century, Mirepoix has preserved its typical half-timbered, wooden and plastered houses. Do not miss the Monday market, under the halls.
