The history of the Palaja Castle Hotel
Nineteen years ago, Cathy and Eric left their lives as senior executives in an international company to change course with their three young daughters and renovate this magnificent 18th-century building. Their dream: to breathe new life into this château and create a charming hotel near Carcassonne, finding in this career change a better work-life balance, gaining time and space. It took three and a half years of extensive renovations, with the help of 30 employees, for the premium hotel Château de Palaja to become this warm and welcoming place, both authentic and modern, where antique wood meets steel, and where every piece of furniture, whether vintage or customized, tells a story. Eric has skillfully combined traditional materials (terracotta tiles, fireplace, marble, and wood) with more modern materials like steel, creating a unique space that reflects their personalities. The former stables, also transformed, now house the independent restaurant "S comme…", open to all.
